After creating the "Take Back Da Streets" personal project, I wanted to create an advertisement where the workflow focused on using vectors rather than photo manipulation. With this in mind, I incorporate geometric shapes and a cool color palette to create a ad that appears calculated.

PROCESS
Since this is my first work with a significant emphasis on geometric shapes, I created an inspiration board on Pinterest with designs that used shapes to create asymmetrical balance.

Afterwards, I quickly sketched out some ideas and started experimenting on Illustrator.
I tried a variety of different shapes arrangements and ended up starting over many times. Taking a step back, I looked at Swiss design and tried to incorporate the asymmetrical grid layouts with sans serif text.

At one point during the experiment, I took a break and came back to a piece which I didn't like. It seemed chaotic and drastically deviated from the theme of calculation.
I decided to start over. Again.
I changed the color palette to cooler colors and selected a typeface that was more rounded. The colors reminded me of my high-school math homework where geometry questions had a combination of thick and thin lines. Using that as inspiration, I created the right-angled triangle overlapped with a thin circle and its radius.

The design was better, but the ad still looked flat and didn't "sell" the shoe. It lacked context.

I wanted "customers" to quickly understand that the product is a running shoe.

I added the background of a long and empty road and added the tagline "Prepare for your journey". This creates the context and appeals to consumers who are interested in shoes that lasts.
The shoe's colors are also indicated at the bottom right. This not acts to balance the tagline, but allow users to know the exact colors of the shoe and match it with their apparel.
