CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY

Position:
Video Editor - Safe Software
January 2018 - April 2019

Adobe Tools:
Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Illustrator

I was brought onboard Safe's marketing team to take all the raw interview footage of various customers and create their customer success videos. As the primary video editor for the Customer Success Stories project, I am responsible for editing the video so that it not only matches the company's persona but ensures that customers are shown in a genuine manner.

PROCESS

For every interview, there are various camera footage and audio files. The first step involves syncing all the camera footage and audio files in preparation for editing.
When everything is synced, I do some rough cuts to match the sequence to the storyboard. Afterwards, I use Adobe Audition to begin the sound editing process. This includes using various effects (such as compressors, equalizers, limiters, etc) to enhance the interviewer's dialogue and reduce the amount of background noise as much as possible.

Example of before and after audio editing in Adobe Audition

With the general sequence of shots and audio editing complete, I begin the detailed video editing process. This includes cutting the audio so that the interviewer speaks in a smooth and articulate manner. Also, I cut the footage so that it utilizes the best camera angle at the moment and then add b-roll footage in appropriate areas.
To introduce the interviewee, a lower-third is needed to show the interviewee's name and company. I used illustrators to generate ideas on possible visual looks that not only looks pleasing, but also follows Safe Software's visual branding (which is the white, orange, and green color palette).

When I had a strong direction, I began creating the lower-third in After Effects and began the animating process. The animated lower-third was essentially created from masks and trim paths.

Another aspect that required the use of After Effects was the credit transition. The transition was created by using one composition as a building block and then creating a composition that offsets four of those. This creates a transition that utilizes the Safe Software color palette for a wipe-reveal effect.
After going through various revisions, the video was approved to be published. The captions were created on Youtube and then the .srt file was extracted to be placed back into Premiere. The captions were then burned onto the video and republished on Youtube.
