SFU SHOCKWAVE DRAGON BOAT TEAM LOGO IDEATION

Client:
SFU SHOCKWAVE Dragon Boat Team

Tools:
Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop

SFU's Dragon Boat team was in the process of being re-branded and being part of the SFU Shockwave Dragon Boat team, I was requested to create potential official logos that will be used for promotional materials and team jerseys.

PROCESS

When I was given the request, they want to have the SFU SHOCKWAVE text, include a dragon, and has a red color to match with the Simon Fraser University's logo.

To get into the creative mindset, I opened up Photoshop, grabbed the brush tool and blocked in various shapes in blue.

Afterwards, I used the pen tool to create a dragon head and started experimenting with different shapes and forms.

For logos 1-3, I focused on relatively "safe" designs. It contained the clients' requirements and contained red and black so that the logos look the same from digital to print.

For logos 4 and 5, I was experimenting with the use of ellipses. Logo 4 was inspired by artwork of the First Nations in British Columbia (where the team is in) and created a shockwave that ripples into a dragon.

Logos 6 and 7 was an experiment with text. Logo 6 was intentionally created to be different by having a futuristic san-serif font with a abstract shock blast. Logo 7 involved the play of text and graphic by combining the dragon with the wavy letter 'S'.

Logos 8 was based off of the experimentation of ellipses and text. I used the letter' S'from a different font to become the source of the wave and then the dragon emerges from it.
